Timberline Foundation makes regular grants to support the activities of the Prabhat Education Foundation of Ahmedabad and maintains a designated fund from which those grants are made. Contributions to this Prabhat Fund are welcomed, and are restricted to that use.
What Prabhat is and what it does
Prabhat serves special children and their families through Centres strategically located near concentrations of special needs in some of Ahmedabad’s most difficult locations. Counseling, therapy, education, vocational training opportunities include access to other specialist facilities and services that can otherwise be very difficult to reach because of poverty, lack of awareness and distance. Prabhat adopts a rights-based approach toward greater self-reliance, empowering those with special needs with knowledge, confidence and improved capacities. Support to parents and to neighbourhoods helps to ensure an immediate environment that can lift the capacities of the special child and her family toward meaningful growth and citizenship.
The Centres are supported by Prabhat’s community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programme which brings therapy and education into the homes of children who cannot access the Centres, building their capacities as well as those of parents and neighbours toward each child’s particular needs. This door-to-door, home-based approach is how Prabhat started and it continues to be the foundation of all that it does. Advocacy is Prabhat’s third stream, reaching out to the wider community toward giving the special child and her family the attention and priority which they deserve.
